Have your say on crucial study of outdoor areas for young people

Posted on 25 Jun 2024

NORTH Ayrshire Council is looking to find out more about young people’s experiences of playing and hanging out outdoors.

The local authority is looking to hear from young people themselves, and also parents/carers, to gather information about what is out there and how it can be improved.

Playing outdoors and exploring our natural environment is essential for development and this Play Sufficiency Assessment will provide a better understanding of the needs and demand in the community.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The places where we live and hang-out are important because they help us live healthy, happy lives and help us take care of the environment. When we have good outdoor spaces and places to hang-out, it makes us happy and healthy and helps us to spend time with friends and family. We want to find out more about what is important to you in the place where you live and hang-out. We are also asking parents, carers and anyone who has an interest in young people’s play opportunities to get involved.”

There are three different surveys to gather the views of primary age school children, secondary pupils and parents or anyone interested in children’s play of all ages.  You can fill out the survey by visiting https://northayrshireldp.commonplace.is/en-GB/proposals/play-in-north-ayrshire-survey

The Council is collecting responses until 12th July 2024.  If you need more time, please email the team at lpd@north-ayrshire.gov.uk

The assessment is required to inform North Ayrshire’s 3rd Local Development Plan, which will be based on an understanding of the needs and demand in the community.  The Local Development Plan is an important document which helps the Council make decisions on how land is used and developed in North Ayrshire. This includes making sure there is high quality spaces with enough places to play, live and work while protecting our environment for future generations.
