THE talented young winners of a poster competition to promote the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open showcased their work at the event this week.

Organisers IMG teamed up with North Ayrshire Active Schools and over the last month have been working with schools across each locality to enable the young people to take part in a competition which highlights the Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Links which runs from August 15-18.

The young people were asked to design a poster of their choice which best represented their thoughts on the tournament.

Over 250 young people from across the region took part and judges reviewed some outstanding entries before picking seven winners.

Each winner will now have their poster design shared within the official programme along with their posters displayed across notice boards within the course. They will also receive a goody bag along with free tickets which will allow them to attend the championship days with their parents/carers.

The young people were at Dundonald Links with families on Wednesday to pick up their prizes and meet tournament officials and players.

The winners were:

  • Grace Ryan (P7 St Marks Primary )
  • Charlie Adams (P6 Largs Primary)
  • Brodie McLure (P7 Blacklands Primary)
  • Martha Komiski (P7 Largs Primary)
  • Nathan Orr ( P7 Largs Primary)
  • Ben Gilmour(P5 Glebe Primary)
  • Laurie McCabe ( P6 Winton Primary)

Harry Owen, ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open Tournament Director, said: “We are delighted at the strength and depth of entries into the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open poster competition this year. It has been extremely hard to pick a winner from more than 250 fantastic poster designs.

“We are very grateful to everyone who entered for their creativity and hard work and to Active Schools North Ayrshire for helping us organise this competition. We look forward to welcoming our seven talented winners to Dundonald Links this week.”

David Hammond, Executive Director of Communities and Housing at North Ayrshire Council, said: “A huge well done to all the young people who took part and it’s fantastic to see them involved in a prestigious event in our local area.

“I know they will feel incredibly proud to see their work displayed in the official programme and around the course. “
