There has been non-stop fun during summer

Posted on 16 Aug 2024

Children and families have been enjoying a range of Locality activities over summer to help brighten up the school holidays.

Summer has mainly been a washout when it comes to the weather.

But North Ayrshire Council’s Kilwinning and North Coast Locality teams have worked together to bring some cheer to families with a programme of summer events.

Activities across both Localities have included:

  • A fun day with Bookbug and arts and crafts in Kilwinning Library with more than 200 people turning up to take part
  • West Kilbride Family Fun Day in the village community centre, where more than 120 people joined in cooking classes, painting and lunch
  • Kelburn Estate Wellbeing Event in Fairlie – which saw 40 you people try their hand at making art from leaves and flowers, designing flowerpots and making organic bird feeders.
  • The Largs Pencil Monument event with the Kilwinning and North Coast Multiply group. Activities enjoyed by almost 90 people included archery, darts and a mini-Olympics course hosted by Active Schools
  • An outdoor learning day at Eglinton Country Park in Kilwinning - with a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) walk and a stick race
  • A Family Fun Day that was enjoyed by almost 60 young people and their families at Cranberry Moss Community centre, Kilwinning. The Kilwinning and North Coast Multiply group hosted cooking classes, KA Leisure brought along the Activator mobile health bus and the Active Schools team hosted sporting games and
  • A youth groups’ trip to Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park near Stirling for young people from Kilwinning and the North Coast.

There was also a Fun Day at Fairlie Beach, where little ones used beach materials to create large sea creatures and Kilwinning and North Coast Multiply hosted active games. Almost 70 people attended to join in the fun on the day.

And more than 50 visitors enjoyed Skelmorlie Fun Day, with archery, mini golf, giant chess, games and indoor movies courtesy of Skelmorlie Community Centre.

“Almost 700 people from neighbourhoods in Kilwinning and the North Coast enjoyed these fantastic summer activities, which were delivered by the Locality teams in conjunction with community partners.

“I would like to thank everyone who was involved in arranging the events, and I hope those who attended had a fantastic time,” said Rhonda Leith, Head of Service for the Council’s Connected Communities service.
