Order a bin

For a standard size bin (240 litre capacity), we charge £50.17.

Extra bins

If, after compacting your waste, you find that your recycling bin is regularly full before collection day, you may need to order an extra bin. This is limited to one per household at the standard charge. Excess recyclable waste can also be taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Due to national targets and local policy, you may not be eligible to receive an extra grey bin. Please continue to use all your recycling bins, this should reduce the amount of general waste you produce.

You may qualify for an extra grey bin if:

  • you live in household with five or more people
  • one or more of the residents has a medical condition and extra space is needed

An assessment may be carried out by council staff to see if you meet the criteria.

Please note: Grey bins can only be ordered over the phone.

Purchasing a bin on behalf of residents

If you are a landlord, housing association or property factor, you may be issued with a new or refurbished large bin of a similar specification. This supports North Ayrshire Council’s aim to reuse and reduce waste as much as possible.

New home

If you move into a property where the previous owner has removed bins, you will need to order and pay for new ones. It is up to you to raise this issue with the previous owner.

Householders in new developments will be required to buy a grey, blue, purple and brown bin.

Replacement bins

If your bin is damaged, or missing, you can request a replacement bin. Charges may apply.

If the bin or container is damaged by us or has fallen into a vehicle, our crew should have noted this and will action a replacement.

You can arrange for removal of your damaged bin, which should be emptied of any contents before its removal.

If you believe that your bin is missing, there will be no charge for a replacement bin. We may ask you some more questions to ensure we have all the details.

Call 01294 310000 to order all other replacement bins.

Replacement bin lids

The Council recognise an ongoing issue caused by a supplier fault with our purple bin lids which were delivered before 2020. We are working through a backlog and apologise for any delay and inconvenience caused during this time.

If your purple bin lid is damaged:

Bin lid locks

Commercial 660, 1100 and 1280 litre wheeled bins are fitted with a lid lock as standard. We do not provide locks for 140, 240 or 360 litre plastic wheeled bins. They are available to buy from a wide range of online suppliers.

Please note: Bins must be unlocked on your day of collection to allow emptying.

Responsibility

The responsibility and liability for all bins, whether purchased or replaced, remains with the householder. Businesses are responsible for replacing their bins should they go missing or are vandalised.
