War memorials

North Ayrshire Council has a duty under the War Memorials (Local Authorities' Powers) Act 1923 to ensure the maintenance, repair and protection of war memorials within its control. The Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 and the Local Government and Planning (Scotland) Act 1982 apply to war memorials in Scotland. They provide powers to the local authority to alter any war memorial under its control.

North Ayrshire Council is custodian for 23 war memorials.
