Nature conservation sites

Nature conservation sites are protected areas of wildlife and geology. Within these areas, proposed development will be carefully assessed and may be restricted in order to allow the natural habitat to survive and flourish. There are several types of designations for nature conservation sites, for example:

  • local nature conservation sites (LNCS)
  • local nature reserves
  • sites of special scientific interest
  • Natura 2000 sites
