There is more to your local library than “just” books

Libraries across North Ayrshire have some exciting events and activities coming up before the end of March.

Gone are the days when the only function of a library was lending books to residents.

You can now:

  • Borrow e-books and audiobooks
  • Access 7000 newspapers and magazine from across the world
  • Use a computer with internet access, and learn basic computer skills
  • Join a variety of health and well-being groups and
  • Take part in a wide range of events and activities.

Spring has finally sprung, and North Ayrshire libraries offer a great opportunity to get involved in fun activities, meet new people and find out more about what is happening right on your doorstep.

Quote: There is a whole host of activities, groups and fun events happening across our libraries, and I would encourage anyone who is looking for something to do to find out more. Joining your local library is no longer only about borrowing books – although the needs of the bookworms in our communities are well catered for! Finding out how to join your local library and which events are on couldn’t be simpler – just give the library a phone or pop in to speak to the staff.

Quote from: Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities and Islands at North Ayrshire Council

Book lovers, especially those who are not already a library member, might be interested to know that across North Ayrshire libraries we currently have:

  • 151,923 books on the shelves
  • 162,553 average issues per year
  • 13,546 issues per month
  • 3,251 issues per week and
  • 445 issues per day.
