Care Day Celebration graphic for event at Redburn Community Hub on 21 February

The council’s Corporate Parenting team is inviting young people and families who are care experienced to an upcoming celebration event for Care Day 2025.

Care-experienced is a term used to describe anyone who has been in care at any stage of their lives.

This includes people living in residential care such as a children’s houses, foster care, kinship care (with friends or relatives), living at home (with a supervision order) or being adopted after being previously looked after.

Taking place on the third Friday of February each year, the event on Friday 21 February marks the ten-year milestone of National Care Day.

To celebrate, a celebratory dinner will be prepared by Friends of Redburn, who have kindly volunteered to host a special two-course meal at Redburn Community Hub in Irvine.

A family friendly event for all ages, the dinner will be hosted at Redburn Community Centre from 5.30pm until 7.30pm and will celebrate the voices of the care community.

Care Day in the world’s biggest celebration of children and young people with care experience.

Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities and Islands, is encouraging residents to be part of the action and book tickets for the free event.

He said: “The council’s Corporate Parenting team works tirelessly all year round to champion and support those who are care experienced in our communities.

“We are delighted that Friends of Redburn have generously supported the team to provide a warm two course meal to care experienced residents on 21 February.

“The aim of the celebration dinner is to give children, young people, adults and their families and friends the chance to gather as a community for Care Day.

“It is also an opportunity to help build relationships and connections between children, young people and residents who have had experience of Scotland’s care system at any point in their lives.”

By sharing a meal together in a relaxed and informal way, everyone will have the opportunity to come together in a safe and supportive environment.

It is hoped that the setting will provide a chance for everyone to share their experiences, identify challenges they may collectively face and find out about the support available locally to improve their lives.
