Adopted Local Development Plan

The development plan for North Ayrshire comprises the

  • adopted Local Development Plan (LDP2) document - adopted by North Ayrshire Council on 28 November 2019
  • National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4) - adopted by Scottish Ministers on 13 February 2023

The LDP sets out how we aim to guide development and investment in our area over the next 20 years and includes our:

  • spatial development strategy: the principles we will use to direct the right development to the right place
  • placemaking policy: the key criteria that will allow us to deliver the six qualities of successful places
  • strategic development areas and the key factors we will consider in developing these major areas of change

Detailed policies provide additional criteria and more detail about how we will consider proposals for specific uses or developments.

We have begun the preparation of a new LDP.

Action programme

Our LDP action programme document sets out how both the policies and proposals will be delivered.

Examination

The Planning and Environmental Appeals Division (DPEA) was appointed by Scottish Ministers. An examination of the proposed North Ayrshire Council LDP was conducted in 2018. The examination considered 18 issues arising from unresolved representations identified by the council to the proposed LDP. The report of the examination was submitted to the council in July 2019.

Strategic environmental assessment

LDP2 has been subject of a strategic environmental assessment (SEA):

The scoping and environmental reports can be found on the SEA gateway and database.

Further assessments and background documents, which informed the preparation of LDP2, may be requested from the Strategic Planning team.
